Search for Downingtown real estate and new homes, here. Originally a small village known as Milltown on the western edge of the “unsettled frontier, ” it became known as Downing’s Town around the 1770’s due, in part, to the presence of John Downing, a tavern owner. After 1812, the village name was officially changed to Downingtown, and, from then on, the industrialization of the town continued with its location along both stage coach and rail lines.
